I do not know whom that one star reviewer is, but I can't help but think that they simply cannot be reviewing the same business!
I did a lot of research on this topic before I did this for the first time. AEWS is one of longest existing companies doing this process and are the people that wrote the book on the correct way to do this and are known to be the true experts at it.
One basic fact: This freeze drying is not a fast process that you can speed up. It takes about a full year to do this for a cat. This is a process that cannot be rushed no matter how much you want it to be. If somebody tells you that it can be done in some ridiculous timeframe like 45 days, then they are probably scamming you and you can either expect poor quality results or (hopefully) receive some sort of service that is probably closer to normal taxidermy than freeze-drying. (Many people object to that since the normal taxidermy process is considered far more invasive and less of your original pet is left than freeze-dry taxidermy processes.)
It’s a shame that some people that really sincerely want to do this for their pet/themselves have been screwed over by some unscrupulous providers out there. Rest assured that will never be the case if you place your pet’s remains in the hands of AEWS. You will have the best possible result.
Evidently CG Smith who posted a negative review was a competitor or someone who can’t be pleased. My Golden Retriever, Poodle, (Dogs), Siamese (Cat), and American Shorthair (Cat) I’ve sent came back to me as a duplicate of the pictures sent. They were beautiful and timely. Cost of each one was incredibly reasonable. Personal experience.
There are a lot more businesses these days who claim to be providing this type of service but you will find that many are taking shortcuts that make for a lower quality final result. They are just in it for the money and some of them are not doing even a decent job at it. The difference in quality is apparent (catastrophic in some cases when a real rookie is involved) .
Eddys wildlife studio is the best. They have done several dogs for me in the past and do outstanding work. As I have had other dogs done by other places that turned out horrible. They are the masters of freeze dry preservation. I would not believe anyone that said their work was bad. D.R. Bill Collins D.V.M.
Here’s a review from somebody that actually has used Eddy Wildlife Studios’ (aka AEWS, Anthony Eddy Wildlife Studio, the acronym I will call them going forward which is now run by Anthony’s son, Shane) services in the recent past.
If anybody wants to further discuss their work, the process, or has any questions about the quality of work product from AEWS, you are welcome to contact me via Facebook private message. I’ll be happy to discuss my experiences with them and am also willing to send photos of their work on my companions.
I still use the name AEWS, because I have a relationship to them going back to when that was the name of the business. (I’ll adjust to the new name eventually). I have personally used their freeze dry taxidermy processes on several of my beloved cats for the simple purpose that I want those beloved companions to be buried with me when I am finally laid to rest.
I have had two of my babies preserved with AEWS and love the outcome. Would recommend them to anyone interested in having this procedure done. They really care for the animal as a Family member. They made me feel safe leaving my babies there I am from Florida and drove there a total of four times picking up and dropping off my dogs. Thank you again for all the time and care you put into making them a furever part of the family. Love Love and Blessed Be!

If this is something you want to do with your pet, then you owe it to yourself to do your research and only allow the best in the field to do this work, as there is either no difference or a negligibly small difference in cost between other so-called providers and AEWS.
The staff at AEWS is highly professional and are extremely sensitive to client's needs/feelings as they realize that they are dealing with an individual at one of the worst possible times in their life. Furthermore, the staff there is extremely conscientious about the quality of their work as they realize the importance of making sure that the animal looks just as a client remembers them looking.
Realistic and Detailed in producing a Life size identical Replica of my Bearded Dragon, Hamster, Mouse, and Parrotlet. My pets look identical down to the smallest details in capturing my pets personalities and physical features. Never found any mistakes in their work. The staff has always been available for my calls. They returned calls promptly. Multiple pictures were asked for of my pets. The work in duplicating each and every one of my pets to the smallest detail came out exactly as the pictures.
Let me tell you my first experience when I received the first cat back after going through their freeze drying process. My cat looked so exactly like she did when she was alive and sleeping on my bed that if looked away from the preserved cat and saw her out of my peripheral vision, I would swear that I saw her breathing! (I, of course, know that cannot be, since I held her the previous year as she was put down due to cancer.) Yes, it's truly THAT close to being so absolutely perfect that you may even be convinced for just a moment that your pet has somehow miraculously come back to life and will get right up and play at any moment.
